January was National Blood Donor Month. In recognition of that event, Libertyville Lodge No. 492 collaborated with LifeSource, a national blood bank organization, to host a Community Days Blood Drive on Saturday, January 5, 2013. The Lodge’s Junior Warden, Jeff Gibson, a paramedic with the Libertyville Fire Department coordinated the event.

In conjunction with the blood drive, officers of the Lodge took visitors, including Korrina Grom, a local reporter from the Libertyville Patch, on tours of the historic Libertyville Masonic Temple. During the tour, Worshipful Master James McKinnon explained truths and dispelled myths about Freemasonry. As a result or the presentations, several interested visitors took membership applications. Three of the visitors have already returned applications and been elected to receive the Degrees.

Since the Lodge’s charter in 1866, the Lodge’s members have been a promenent part of the history of the Village of Libertyville. Besides blood drives, the Lodge has been very active in providing support to charity drives for the local food pantry and PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter). The Lodge is also working with the local historical society to prepare for a year-long Sesquicentennial Celebration, scheduled to take place in 2016. The event will mark the 150th Birthday of the Lodge’s charter.
